Day 1
This evening you will depart London for flight to Mangalore via Mumbai.
Day 2
This morning you will arrive into Mangalore where you will be met by your private car and driver. You will be driven along the coast to idyllic Neeleshwar, a scenic journey that should take about 3 hours. Spend the remainder of your day at leisure in this wonderful beach location.
Day 3
Enjoy today completely at lesiure. You may wish to join in on a yoga class or enjoy a ayurvedic treatment today.
Day 4
Enjoy today completely at leisure.
Day 5
Today you will continue south to Tellicherry, a typical fishing town and home to Ayesha Manzil, a wonderful homestay famed for its authentic Keralan cuisine and the traditional Theyyam ritual dancing that takes place nearby.
Day 6
Today you may like to visit the very authentic fish market and/or enjoy a cookery lesson. This region of Kerala is also famous for Theyyam, an ancient and colourful ritual performed in local temples. Ask your hosts, as they can help you track one down if you are visiting between November and March.
Day 7
Continue further south in Kerala to Sultan's Battery in Wayanad, an area lush with coffee and spice plantations. The journey en route is beautiful. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure. Take a look at the accommodation options here.
Day 8
Today you might like to visit the prehistoric caves, take a jeep safari in Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary or perhaps enjoy walking or bird watching in the area today. Check out our ideas of things to do in Sultan's Battery.
Day 9
Today your driver will take you back over to the coast where you will take the train from Calicut to Cochin. The remainder of your day is at leisure in Cochin, one of India's most impressive colonial cities that's now a hub for art galleries, cafes and boutiques. Enjoy wondering the streets or time relaxing in your hotel when you arrive today.
Day 10
Today you will enjoy our Fort Cochin Heritage Walk, a perfect way to enjoy the crumbling colonial architecture, the synagogue, as well as the old churches and basilica. You might like to watch a Kathakali performance this evening.
Day 11
Your driver will bring you in land approximately 4 hours to Munnar today, a stunning area carpeted in tea plantations. This beautiful journey brings you through the undulating hills dotted with tea, cardamom and small hillside villages.
Day 12
Enjoy the Top Station Valley Trek today, a guided walk through tea plantations, dense shola forests, mountain ridges and shola grasslands that takes approximately five hours. If walking isn't your cup of tea then visit a tea plantation and the tea museum.
Day 13
This morning will be an early start for your drive to Alleppey in the Backwaters, to board your overnight houseboat in time for lunch. This journey will take appoximately 4 hours. The Backwaters are a fantastic collection of lakes, lagoons and waterways that are sandwiched between the Arabian sea and Kerala's forested hills. Spend the remainder of your day in this idyllic location, home to little villages, coconut groves, fishermen and a huge variety of bird life. Spend the remainder of your day cruising around the completely idyllic backwaters whilst enjoying tantilizing Keralan cuisine.
Day 14
This morning you will disembark from your boat after breakfast. You will be taken nearby to your accommodation where you can simply relax. We highly recommend staying in a homestay, the perfect way to enjoy the backwater area. Take a look at the accommodation options. The backwaters is a wonderful place to see local life, from coconut harvesting to rubber tapping and drying. It's also a fantastic place to relax.
Day 15
Enjoy today completely at leisure. If you are staying in a homestay you might like to explore the local farm and plantation with your hosts, or perhaps enjoy an authentic cookery lesson.
Day 16
This morning will be an early transfer to Cochin Airport for your flight home.

Northern Kerala is perfect for those wishing to escape the crowds; its a fantastic alternative to more classic routes through Kerala. It starts in Mangalore, instead of Cochin, a great access point to the northern regions. The trip begins with a relaxing break in Neeleshwar, a beautiful stretch of coastline that’s home to a wonderful boutique hotel. In continues south along the Malabar Coast to Tellicherry, a traditional fishing town home to an extraordinary home-stay. This is the perfect opportunity to visit markets, learn how to cook Keralan cuisine and even catch a glimpse of the unique Theyyam dancing. From Tellicherry the journey heads into the hills of Wayanad, before reaching Cochin by train. From here the trip comes inland to the tea growing region of Munnar, before ending on the completely idyllic and iconic backwaters. This is a peaceful, green and relaxing journey through one of India’s most beautiful states.
