Amber Fort and Palace, otherwise known as Amer Fort and Palace, lies 11km to the south of Jaipur. It’s a magnificent hilltop fort, which feels more of a palace than an ancient fort as it’s built from pink and pale yellow sandstone along with fine white marble. Hilltop forts were of paramount importance to Rajput rulers, they believed a fort to be the strength of a king and so they built a number of such forts all over the state of Rajasthan. Some made for purely defensive purposes, but most built as fort palaces. Amber Fort is one of the finest examples of fort palaces. This half-day tour takes you to the palace, home of the royal family and known for its cache of excellent private museums that now display royal memorabilia to its visitors. We recommend a visit to the Albert Hall that houses a superb collection of fine art and traditional crafts from across Rajasthan.
